I’m a digital developer, photographer, and independent founder based on the South Coast of the UK.
I don’t fit neatly into a single corporate box, and I don’t pretend to. My work brings together web architecture, visual storytelling with strong contrast and civic tech. It’s built around a simple principle: use technology and creative tools to solve real local problems, cut through bureaucracy and give a megaphone to the voices that usually get ignored.
What I do
Civic Technology & Platforms: I designed and built Shape Gosport (shapegosport.co.uk) and Shape Local (shapelocal.co.uk). These interactive community platforms give local residents a direct, transparent voice in civic feedback, ward reporting and local business engagement.
Visual Storytelling: Through my photography studio (freddycairns.co.uk), I capture urban environments in low light, live music and real human moments with a distinct, unvarnished aesthetic.
Editorial & Direct Action: This website (iamfreddy.co.uk) is my independent broadcasting station. It’s where I publish breakdowns of local issues in plain English, write on civic ethics, run guerilla community campaigns and turn raw data into direct local impact.
The ethos
I’m not a politician, an elected official or an institution. I don’t take political party funding, and I don’t answer to corporate sponsors.
Too much of modern civic life is hidden behind council PDFs running to 80 pages, confusing jargon or passive social media noise. I build tools that make engagement effortless, write commentary that tells the truth in plain English and use my platform to take the hits so others don’t have to.
Whether I’m shipping custom web code, documenting everyday realities on the street through a lens or pushing for local accountability, the goal is always the same: action over noise, transparency over bureaucracy and community over everything else.
